A Bangladeshi national was among the 22 people from seven countries who died in the fire at a hotel in New Delhi, India, on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Md Nurul Amin, 44.

The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi said on Thursday night that it was facilitating the earliest repatriation of his body.

As of June 4, two Bangladeshi families have been particularly affected by the fire, which broke out on June 3. Both families had been staying at the hotel while receiving medical treatment at the nearby Max Hospital.

The Bangladeshi mission said it remains in constant contact with the victims and their families, who are under treatment at different hospitals in New Delhi.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah visited all Bangladeshi nationals admitted at Max Hospital and spoke with attending physicians about their condition.

Officials from the mission are stationed at the hospital to liaise round-the-clock with patients and medical staff and to address any crisis.

The Bangladesh High Commission added that it is also in contact with Indian authorities to ensure necessary treatment and support for the victims.
