Newborn found alive near Dhaka airport
A newborn was found in a bush near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka this morning.
The baby girl, aged only a day or two, was admitted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after an airport cleaner found her, abandoned, around 11:30am.
Jahura Akter said they were working when her colleague Rehana heard the sounds of a baby crying from a bush on the north side of the airport.
"She found the baby wrapped in a towel and we took her to Airport Police Station. With the help of police, the baby was rushed to DMCH," she said.
Sub-inspector Razibul Hasan of Airport Police Station said the baby had no injury marks on her body but she had rashes which possibly happed due to mosquito bites. Police are trying to find who abandoned her there, he said.
DMCH Director Brig Gen Nazmul Haque said the baby's weight is around two and a half kilogram and she is now in good condition. There was bleeding through her naval which doctors managed to stop. She has been on little oxygen support although it is not needed at this moment, he said.
