CHOBI MELA X

Date: 28 February – 9 March

Venue: Multiple venues

Since its inception in 2000, Chobi Mela, the international festival of photography, has been the most significant photographic event in Asia. It is organised by Drik Picture Library Limited and Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, in collaboration with a number of other organisations.

The tenth edition of Chobi Mela's theme is 'Place.'

Alliance Française de Dhaka's La Galerie will exhibit works by Vanessa Winship, an award-winning British photographer. Laureate of numerous prizes including the World Press Photo — twice; the National Portrait Gallery Prize; PhotoEspaña Descubrimientos, the HCB Award (the first woman to do so); Winship has exhibited in various museums and festivals, such as the Rencontres d'Arles, the Kunsthal Rotterdam, and Photographers' Gallery in London.

IN SEARCH OF NATURE: 2ND SOLO EXHIBITION BY BIPLOB KOR

Date: 26 February – 28 February

Time: 9:30AM – 8PM

Venue: EMK Center, Midas Center Building 7 (9th Floor) House-5, Road-16, Dhanmondi

There comes a time when men began to submit to their own creations, the machines. This deceptive dependency made them become real life 'cyborgs'. These 'cyborgs' eventually seek for a way back to nature, out of this rusty mechanical city. The purpose of the exhibition is to portray the artists' endeavour to bridge these lost 'cyborgs' to nature again. The exhibition is an honest portrayal of a journey where machines, men and nature coexist to pave their ways.

BANGLADESH: POSITIVE DNA

Date: 1 March – 2 March

Time: 10AM and 9PM

Venue: Jatra Biroti, 60 Kemal Ataturk Avenue, Banani

We are the world's second largest apparel exporter, world's third largest inland fish producer and we rank eighth on the Happy Planet Index. However, Bangladesh is still seen as a 'hopeless case.'

News highlights terrorism, poverty, poor women's rights, exploitative garment factories, flooding and global warming vulnerability. There are still challenges to overcome, but the actual reality of Bangladesh is that the country is experiencing rapid development, which has resulted in improved quality of life and reduction in poverty.

Unless we start telling our own stories about Bangladesh today, the image of our country will remain outdated.
