Collector Wins Gold Medal at IBRA, International Stamp Exhibition

Bangladeshi collector Mohammed Monirul Islam won a gold medal at IBRA 2023, World Stamp Exhibition held at Essen, Germany between 25 May 2023 and 28 May 2023. This is the first time that a Bangladeshi philatelist has won such an accolade at an exhibition held under the patronage of FIP, Fédération Internationale de Philatélie. Over 600 philatelists from 65 countries across the world participated in this competitive event, mentioned a press release. 

International Exhibitions with FIP patronage are known for the highest level of competition and recognition.

Mohammed Monirul Islam also won a 'Special Prize' for his exhibit titled, The Evolution of the Bengal Court & Tax System c. 1700-1880 which highlighted the changes in the taxation system in the area now comprising Bangladesh by presenting revenue stamps, stamped papers, and other scarce documents.  

While Monirul Islam won a Gold, Shamsul Alam and Sawda Binte Faiz received Vermeil medals for their exhibits 'Birds of Bangladesh' and 'Women in Bangladesh Philately' respectively. The other two exhibitors, Tahiya Mehrima Zaman and Manha Islam won Silver medals for their exhibits.
