More than 800 illegal gas connections disconnected during drive in Gazipur

A mobile court today conducted a drive in Gazipur's Board Bazar and surrounding areas and disconnected more than 800 illegal gas connections of 400 houses.

Gazipur Executive Magistrate Md Iqbal Hossain led the drive and imposed a fine of Tk1.5 lakh on a factory named Messrs Emma Dry Process Factory in Board Bazar and another fine of Tk1.2 lakh on two individuals, said Suruj Alam, manager of Gazipur Regional Office at the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited.

The factory was fined for the same offence previously.

A 200-metre long gas pipeline was also disconnected and removed during the drive.

A local gang provides these connections to different houses in exchange for money and case proceedings against them is ongoing, Suruj Alam said.
