Dybala wants to play beside Messi

Paulo Dybala said that he believes he is ready to feature for Argentina and play beside ‘the best player in the world’Lionel Messi. Dybala was left on the bench as Argentina were held 1-1against Iceland in their opening match.

Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli had previously said that‘the duo were not yet ready to play together.’But Dybala thinks they need to find a way to work together.

Dybala has featured as a right sided forward for Juventus and is used to playing that role. However, he has frequently been left out of the side because he likes to play in similar zones where Messi plays. Messi dropped deep to build play from the back against Iceland and whenever he did that, Argentina lost attacking options up front. Problem for Argentina was that when Messi remained close to the area, they had major difficulties playing the ball forward.

"Messi does not have any substitute here, in Barcelona or anywhere in the world. So obviously I think we could work together," he told a news conference on Tuesday.

"We need to figure out how I would fit on the team because, as you said, I used to play in the same position he plays and lately I have been used to playing in that position.

"But obviously I think we must work together."

Dybala had featured alongside Messi during a friendly match against Brazil last year in June. In that game Dybala linked up particularly well with Messi. If that game is anything to go by, Sampaoli might have to re-think his idea of not playing Messi and Dybala together.

"We are aware we have the best player in the world by our side, and we must take advantage from him and try to get some action too, taking advantage from each space he leaves, every rival player marking him," the Juventus star continued.

"We must take advantage from those spaces, those moments so we can attack in a better way." He concluded.

Argentina continue their World Cup campaign with their crucial Group D match against Croatia on Thursday.
