The Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre recorded the country's lowest temperature so far this season at 12.6 degrees Celsius at 9:00am today.

According to Jitendra Nath Roy, assistant officer at the centre, the temperature in the northern districts, particularly Panchagarh, has been dropping steadily over the past few days as a cool wind continues to blow from the Himalayan side.

"The temperature has been dipping gradually in Tetulia," he said. "The chill is now felt soon after sunset and lasts until morning. However, the bright sunshine during the daytime is creating a significant gap between the day's highest and lowest temperatures."

He added that the current temperature trend is likely to continue for the next few days, with a mild cold wave expected to sweep over the region in the last week of November.

The temperature in Tetulia was 14.5 degrees Celsius yesterday , 16.5 degrees Celsius on Monday, and 16.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, showing a steady fall throughout the week.

As Panchagarh is located close to the Himalayas, winter typically arrives earlier and departs later than in other parts of the country, the official added.

Locals in various areas of Panchagarh Sadar upazila said a thin layer of fog blanketed the surroundings this morning as a gentle, chilly breeze blew from the north.

Matin Mia, a rickshaw-puller from Panchagarh town, said, "The temperature has been falling gradually, but in the last two days, the cold wind blowing from the north since afternoon has made the weather distinctly chilly."

Rafiqul Islam, a farmer from Dakshin Bathina village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, said the cold wind has been forcing them to start work in the fields later than usual each morning.

Local hospitals, including Panchagarh Sadar Hospital and Thakurgaon 250 Bedded General Hospital, have reported a rise in fever, cold, asthma, and pneumonia cases, particularly among children and the elderly due to the sharp temperature fluctuation between day and night.

Rakibul Alam, resident medical officer at the Thakurgaon hospital, confirmed an increase in patients suffering from respiratory and cold-related illnesses.

Despite the chill, the region saw a daytime high of 30 degrees Celsius yesterday and 30.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, according to the observatory centre.

Meanwhile, the wind direction and speed at Panchagarh and adjacent districts will remain north-northwesterly at 10–11 km/h.

Elsewhere in the region, Dinajpur recorded the lowest temperature at 15°C, according to the Dinajpur Met Office.
