140 medical teams formed across country for flood-affected people: Health Minister
Health Minister Zahid Maleque today (June 18, 2022) said a total of 140 medical teams were formed for the treatment of flood affected people across the country.
"The medical teams will provide treatment at every district, upazila, and union. Apart from this, a coordination committee was formed in Dhaka. Separate committees were formed in Sylhet and others districts. Civil surgeons, deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, physicians, nurses, and officials of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief were made members of the committees," the minister said this while addressing a programme as a chief guest in Manikganj today, reports our Manikganj correspondent.
"The committee is working. They have been providing everything that is needed for affected people. As the roads are submerged, they are serving people through boats, speed boats, and other vehicles," he added.
Apart from Sylhet, many districts are also inundated, he said.
"Roads have been submerged and floodwaters are disrupting medical services in hospitals. It has become difficult to provide medical care".
Mentioning about the present condition of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, the minister said, "There is no electricity there. Through the generator, we have continued the operation of the hospital."
Talking about the spike in Covid-19, the minister urged people to wear masks and take vaccine if they are yet to be vaccinated.
