When we glorify moms, we put pressure on dads: Neena Gupta
Ahead of the Mother's Day today, actress Neena Gupta reflected on her motherhood journey and her bond with her daughter, designer Masaba Gupta.
Neena told News18, "Everything is challenging in today's day and age. Even fathers are under a lot of pressure because they too fear losing their jobs and the burden of earning a livelihood is on them… Not just motherhood, everything in this world is challenging".
Speaking further about the pressures that fathers face, she added, "We're living in very difficult times. Sometimes, I think that when we try to only glorify and talk about mothers, that puts a lot of pressure and stress on fathers."
In 1988, Neena became a single mom when she had her daughter, Masaba with previous partner, cricketer Vivian Richards. Her decision to embrace singe-motherhood in the early 90s became a daunting decision for that time. The actress did not back down in the face of adversities and raised her daughter, later marrying Vivek Mehra in 2008.
Neena was last seen in "Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway", which was released in March of this year. Directed by Anurag Basu, the film also stars Anupam Kher, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Ali Fazal, Sara Ali Khan and Pankaj Tripathi.
