Scott shared the article with the headline- "India's Tom Cruise Shah Rukh Khan May Have Just Saved Bollywood With His Blockbuster Pathaan." This led to a massive uproar on Twitter as SRK fans slammed the critic for his comment.
"He isn't Tom Cruise; he is Shah Rukh Khan, the one and only," a user wrote.
"SRK is just SRK. He is not an Indian Tom Cruise, but a national treasure, and he is more than his films," wrote another user.
Another user explained, "I understand you're just trying to provide context, but as a white American who hasn't seen a single Bollywood film before 2019, Shah Rukh is far more than Tom Cruise. There is no equivalent in Hollywood."
Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathaan" was released on January 25.
The film, which also starred Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia, and Ashutosh Rana, starred Shah Rukh as an Indian spy attempting to stop a former rogue agent from spreading terror around the world.
Since its release, "Pathaan" has earned approximately Rs 700 crore at the global box office.
