Ryan Gosling stuns Comic-Con with first look at 'Project Hail Mary'

Comic-Con 2025 rocketed into interstellar territory Saturday with the debut of "Project Hail Mary", a sci-fi blockbuster starring Ryan Gosling and adapted from Andy Weir's bestselling novel. The film is set for release in March 2026.

Gosling, joined by co-directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, screenwriter Drew Goddard, and Weir himself, appeared before a packed hall of fans in San Diego to unveil first-look footage from the upcoming film. Weir, also the author of "The Martian", called the adaptation "so cool," while praising Gosling's layered portrayal of Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher-turned-astronaut tasked with saving Earth from a solar extinction event.

"This guy's terrified," Gosling said of his character. "He has to do something impossible." The actor described the film as both "heartbreaking and funny," adding, "It took me places I'd never been."

Lord and Miller—best known for "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse"—spoke about the technical feats behind the film. "We had to build a full spaceship in two gravity modes," said Miller. "And a tunnel that was 100 feet long—just massive."

The preview included scenes of an emotional bond between Grace and an alien named Rocky. "Their relationship is the heart of the movie," said Miller, a sentiment echoed by fans.

"I loved it," said attendee April Rodriguez. "I read the book, but never imagined it like this."

Earlier that day, "Star Trek" took over the main stage, previewing new episodes and series. Paramount+ offered an exclusive look at season four of "Strange New Worlds," including a quirky puppet-themed episode crafted with Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

Fans also got their first glimpse of "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy," featuring Holly Hunter as Captain Nahla Ake, the chancellor of the USS Athena.

"It was fascinating to play someone who's both a leader in crisis and a guide for the future," Hunter said, highlighting the duality of her role.

Comic-Con concludes Sunday, wrapping up a weekend packed with galactic premieres and fan-fueled excitement.
