‘Reject pirated content to save Bangladeshi cinema’: Siam Ahmed

Piracy fears have once again gripped Dhaka’s film industry. The growing trend of movies leaking online shortly after release has become a serious concern for filmmakers. This Eid-ul-Fitr, several directors chose to release their films exclusively in multiplexes during the first week, hoping to minimise piracy risks.

Actor Siam Ahmed, whose film “Rakkhosh” released this Eid, has now stepped forward to urge audiences to reject pirated content. During a cinema hall visit on the first day of release, Siam spoke alongside director Mehedi Hassan Hridoy and producer Shahreen Akter Sumi.

“Anyone who watches a pirated copy does not want Bangladeshi cinema to succeed,” Siam said. “Those who truly want our cinema to do well must come forward. I urge everyone — if a pirated copy ever comes your way, say ‘no’ on your own responsibility. Only then can piracy be stopped from spreading.”

Before the release, producer Shahreen Akter Sumi had announced that due to piracy concerns, the film would be shown exclusively in multiplexes for the first two to three weeks before moving to single-screen cinemas.

Siam expressed delight at the audience response on opening day. “Thank you so much for showing so much love to  ‘Rakkhosh’ on the very first day,” he said. “Those who came on the first day came without any reviews — because they had faith in this film. I hope this love will only grow going forward.”

“Rakkhosh”  is directed by Mehedi Hassan Hridoy and produced by Real Energy Production. Indian actress Susmita Chatterjee stars opposite Siam in the film, marking her Dhallywood debut. The cast also includes Aliraj and Naznin Hasan Chumki. Bollywood actress Natalia Janoszek appears in an item song.
