‘Rakkhosh’ first look hints at a darker side of love
Filmmaker–producer duo Mehedi Hasan Hridoy and Shehrin Sumi, who previously stirred strong reactions in Dhaka's film scene with "Borbaad", have offered an even darker visual hint of what is to come with the first look of their upcoming film "Rakkhosh".
The first look of the much-discussed film was unveiled on Wednesday (December 17) at an event held at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). Actors Siam Ahmed and Ali Raj, producer Shehrin Sumi, director Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, and other members of the cast and crew were present. Although not part of the film, actor Bapparaj also attended the event to wish the team well.
Following the success of "Borbaad", which starred Shakib Khan, anticipation surrounding the duo's next project was high. Many wondered whether "Rakkhosh" would take a softer turn after the extreme violence depicted in their previous film. The newly released look, however, puts those speculations to rest.
In just a few seconds, the teaser makes it clear that "Rakkhosh" is anything but restrained. Instead, it signals a film that ventures into an even darker and more unsettling world of violence.
The opening image is deliberately disturbing: a white bathtub filled not with water, but blood. Inside it lies the body of a dead tiger. Standing beside the tub is Siam Ahmed, dressed in a white suit and boots. His expression carries both devastation and menace. A rose stem rests between his lips, while one hand holds a Chinese axe and the other a pistol. He fires at the lifeless tiger. As the camera slowly pulls back, the setting is revealed — a stark white room, its floor splattered with blood. In a single shot, the film's brutal tone is firmly established.
The imagery leaves little doubt that Mehedi Hasan Hridoy is once again prepared to push the boundaries of cinematic violence. Indian actor Sushmita Chatterjee, who plays a role in the film, was also present at the event. There are also indications that Sabila Nur may appear in an important role.
Speaking at the programme, Siam Ahmed said he began preparing for "Rakkhosh" nearly nine months ago. During this period, he completed work on "Andhar" before fully committing himself to the new project.
Addressing the film's violent themes, Siam said, "This film explores how violent a person can become because of love. The audience won't feel disturbed — they will feel completely engaged."
When asked about the symbolic killing of the tiger shown at the beginning of the look, director Mehedi Hasan Hridoy responded briefly, saying, "Why a tiger — that answer will become clear once you watch the film."
