Puja Chery joins Nisho and Chanchal in Redoan Rony’s ‘Domm’
Director Redoan Rony is making his long-awaited return to the big screen with "Domm", a survival drama starring Afran Nisho, Chanchal Chowdhury, and Puja Chery. Jointly produced by Alpha i and Chorki, the film is scheduled for release on Eid al-Fitr next year and will be shot extensively in Kazakhstan.
Speaking at the film's mahurat ceremony at Gulshan Shooting Club on Wednesday (Sunday 29), Rony described "Domm" as a story rooted in real events, designed to test both the emotional and physical limits of its cast. "This film requires a lot of stamina," he said.
"We chose Kazakhstan for its unforgiving climate and landscape — they serve the authenticity this story needs. It won't be easy for anyone, but that's what makes it worthwhile."
Afran Nisho, who will be seen in one of the lead roles, expressed enthusiasm about working with Rony for the first time. "Rony bhai is returning to the screen after years, and I'm honoured to be part of that comeback," he said. "The writers have created a beautiful, layered story. I'm proud to be working with this team."
Chanchal Chowdhury, sharing his thoughts with characteristic wit, hinted at the film's intensity. "We're saving our breath until 'Domm' reaches the audience — so that when it does, we can deliver it fully," he said.
For Puja Chery, "Domm" represents a new chapter in her career. "This is my first collaboration with Nisho bhai and my second time working with Chanchal bhai since my childhood acting days," she said. "I had to audition for this role — it took a lot of hard work to get here. I hope to give my best."
Producer Shahriar Shakil said the delay in starting production stemmed from the complexity of the script. "The only reason for the delay was the script's difficulty," he said. "It's an ambitious, challenging story, and we wanted to ensure we were fully ready. Our target is next Eid-ul-Fitr."
"Domm" marks Rony's third feature film, following his National Film Award–winning debut "Chorabali". Over the years, he has built a strong reputation in television direction with series such as "House Full", "FnF", and "Pata Jhorar Din".
The director said he was drawn to "Domm" because of its powerful story and emotional resonance. "When I read the script, I knew this was the film that would bring me back," he said.
The mahurat event reflected the grandeur of Rony's return. Puja Chery made a striking entrance — dressed in bridal attire and carried on a traditional palanquin by four attendants. On stage, co-stars Nisho and Chanchal welcomed her amid applause, creating a scene that blended theatrical flair with symbolic anticipation for the project's launch.
