Oscar winner calls 'RRR' a ‘gay love story’

Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty is currently under fire for calling SS Rajamouli's "RRR" a 'gay love story'. Pookutty had also mentioned that Alia Bhatt was simply a 'prop' in the film.

"RRR" stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles. The film centres around two friends fighting against the British during the colonial period. Alia Bhatt has an extended cameo in the movie as the love interest of Ram Charan. 

Many Twitter users called out Resul Pookutty for his insensitive and bigoted comments. As a result, the sound designer was forced to disable his Twitter's comment section. After facing severe backlash, the Oscar winner doubled down, saying that he simply stated an opinion that was shared by international viewers of "RRR".

"RRR" has had massive success worldwide, earning a box office total of Rupees 1200 crores globally.
