Mehazabien-starrer ‘Saba’ arrives on OTT

After its theatrical release in September, the film "Saba", starring actress Mehazabien Chowdhury, is now streaming on OTT platform Hoichoi.

Announcing the release in a Facebook post, the platform wrote: "In this city, some girls grow up under the shadow of responsibility and discover themselves through everyday struggles. 'Saba' is coming—an intimate story of a mother, a daughter and survival. Watch the film on Hoichoi from December 19."

Directed by Maksud Hossain, the 90-minute film depicts the struggles of a middle-class mother and daughter. The screenplay was written by Maksud Hossain and his wife Trilora Khan.

The story follows Saba, whose father is absent and whose mother, Shirin, is left paralysed after a road accident. Confined to a wheelchair, Shirin depends entirely on her daughter. Burdened with household responsibilities and caregiving, Saba is unable to focus on her own career while grappling with financial hardship in her efforts to ensure her mother's recovery. A sudden heart attack and the need for an urgent operation further complicate her life.

Alongside Mehazabien, the film also stars Rokeya Prachy and Mostafa Monwar.

"Saba" was released in local theatres on September 26 after touring several international festivals. Its international journey began at the Toronto International Film Festival, followed by screenings at the Busan International Film Festival, Red Sea International Film Festival, Gothenburg Film Festival, Osaka and Dallas film festivals.

In March this year, the film won the third prize in the Asian Cinema Competition section at the Bangalore International Film Festival.
