Actress and former Lux Channel I superstar winner Shanarei Devi Shanu recently revealed that she tied the knot last year. Although the wedding took place in 2024, Shanu only shared the joyful news with the public yesterday.

Her husband, Mahbub Jamil, is an engineer with a passion for writing. Their love story blossomed through a shared interest in literature, eventually leading to their decision to marry. 

Shanu confirmed that they officially wed on February 14, 2024, in an intimate family ceremony. She shared this news during an interview with Prothom Alo. The couple first crossed paths two years ago at the Aajob Prokash office in Moghbazar, Dhaka, sparking a friendship that later turned into romance. 

Over time, the couple often spotted together at the Dhaka Amar Ekushey Book Fair. While Shanu is best known for her acting career, she has also pursued writing, with several of her books—spanning short stories, novels, and poetry—published at the fair in recent years.

In a candid conversation with Prothom Alo, Shanu explained why she waited to announce the news of her wedding. "Although we got married on last year's Valentine's Day, we didn't feel it was the right time to make it public. Complications arose after the wedding, and the political instability added to our decision to delay sharing the news. However, our close friends and family were aware of the marriage," she said. 

"We're still navigating through a challenging time, but the news became public when we shared some photos from our first anniversary on Facebook," the actress continued. 

Discussing her private life, Shanu added, "I'm always very careful about what personal matters I choose to share."

Reflecting on her relationship with Jamil, Shanu revealed that their shared love for literature brought them closer. "He's primarily a poet and has been writing for a long time. We're both wordsmiths, and our thoughts just aligned naturally," she exclaimed.

Mahbub Jamil, originally from Dhaka, made his debut as an author in 2019 with his book "Jolporir Nishshash". 

This is Shanu's second marriage. She was previously married to Xavier Shantanu Biswas in 2009, but that relationship ended amicably through family mediation.

At this year's Amar Ekushey Book Fair, Shanu released her latest book, "Bagh Manush".
