Looking back at Hrithik’s best performances on his birthday
Be it due to his dancing prowess, or exceptionally well-crafted action sequences, Hrithik Roshan has been reigning over the Bollywood industry for quite the right reasons. To celebrate his birthday today, we look back at five of his most memorable performances on screen.
Koi Mil Gaya
This science-fiction movie, portraying a strange kind of friendship between an extra-terrestrial creature and a differently abled young boy, opened doors for the evolution of sci-fi in Bollywood movies. It presented him as a brilliant and emerging actor who meticulously carved himself for this challenging role, and then transitioned smoothly to a muscle-bound hero, fighting against everyone to save his friend.
Krrish
After Koi Mil Gaya's enormous success at the box office, the sequel offered a completely new plot and the actor played a superhero that thrived on audience popularity. This movie worked its way to establish the superhero genre in Bollywood, and Hrithik's charismatic performance on-screen deserves a lot of credit for creating an Indian superhero. The franchise further released Krrish 3 in 2013 and is presently working on the fourth instalment.
Guzaarish
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's highly emotional movie may not have had a strong box office performance, but it did feature a fantastic performance from Hrithik Roshan. In this film, the actor portrays a paralysed magician-turned-radio broadcaster who petitions the court for permission to end his life. Regarded as the most difficult role of his career, Guzaarish set the stage for him to explore his versatility as an emerging actor.
Agneepath
In this remake of a classic Bollywood film, Hrithik plays the role of Vijay, who is seen fighting to avenge the death of his father. Given the complexity and frailties of his character, he had displayed restraint and vigour in equal measures, while portraying the rage expected from this character. Hrithik Roshan as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan brings passion, soul and vengeance to the film.
Super 30
In this biographical drama, Hrithik is seen as the epitome of versatility. He played the role of Anand Kumar, a mathematician from Patna who, through his knowledge, hard work and dedication, operated an organisation that assisted young students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their dreams of getting into IIT. In this film, he rightly conveys the honesty and tenacity of his character, making it a good watch.
