The nominees for the 2023 International Emmy Awards have been announced, with 56 nominees from 20 countries representing 14 categories. Indian actors Jim Sarbh, Shefali Shah, and Vir Das have made it to the list.

While Shefali Shah and Jim won acting nods for their shows "Delhi Crime" and "Rocket Boys", respectively, Vir scored a nod for his Netflix comedy special "Landing".

Shefali, 50, is nominated for best actress performance for the second season of the critically acclaimed Netflix series "Delhi Crime". In 2020, the first season received the International Emmy for best drama series, a first for India.

"I'm at a loss for words to express how I'm feeling. To me, 'Delhi Crime' is a very special endeavour. While the first season of the show won the prize in 2020, being nominated in the Best Actress category for 'Delhi Crime' season two is just overwhelming," said the actress.

Shefali is up against Connie Nielsen for the Danish series "Drommeren", Billie Piper for the British show "I Hate Suzie Too" and Karla Souza for the Mexican series "La Caida" in the category.

Jim was nominated for best performance by an actor for his role in "Rocket Boys" as nuclear physicist Homi Bhabha, recognised as the Father of India's nuclear programme.

"I am honoured and thrilled to have been nominated for best actor at the International Emmy Awards for my portrayal of Dr Homi Bhabha in 'Rocket Boys'. It is a privilege to be honoured amongst such talented people from all around the world," the 36-year-old actor said in a statement.

"This nomination is a testament to the hardworking, dedicated, and extremely talented cast and crew who brought Dr Sarabhai and Dr Bhabha's incredible story to life. I had a great time working on 'Rocket Boys', a project that honours India's scientists, artistes, and leaders, the forefathers of a newly born nation," he continued.

Jim Sarbh will have to compete with Gustavo Bassani of Iosi, "El Espia Arrepentido" (Argentina), British actor Martin Freeman for "The Responder" and Jonas Karlsson for the Swedish series "Nattryttarna".

Comedian Vir Das' stand-up special "Landing" has been nominated under the comedy category.

His other competitions are "Derry Girls" season three from the United Kingdom, "El Encargado" from Argentina, and "Le Flambeau" season two from France.

The 44-year-old actor-comic described being nominated for an International Emmy as an "incredible honour".

"To have an Indian comedy special nominated against massive TV shows, worldwide, in a category like comedy. I'm absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to represent India, Indian comedy, and Indian stand-up. This journey has been incredible, and I'm grateful to everyone who helped make it possible, including my tireless crew and, of course, Netflix India for placing 'Vir Das: Landing on the map'," Vir remarked.

On November 20, the International Emmy Awards will be hosted in New York City. In addition, film producer Ektaa R Kapoor will get the Directorate Award for her "trailblazing career and impact on the Indian television landscape" at the function.
