‘Girgiti’ to bring gritty crime thriller to OTT

The crime-thriller 'Girgiti' is set to premiere on October 16 on Bongo, drawing viewers into the murky underworld of the fictional town Biralpur, where drugs, power, and murder intertwine.
Once an orderly and vibrant city, Biralpur has now fallen prey to corruption and crime. When three men working under the powerful businessman Chowdhury are brutally murdered, detective Maruf Zaman is assigned to investigate. But things take an unexpected turn when another killing occurs inside the police station itself — forcing Maruf to question whether the killer is closer than he imagined.
Based on a story by Rahat Mehedi Haque, with screenplay by Jyotirmoy Roy and direction by Lashkar Niaz Mahmud, the five-episode series features Irfan Sajjad in the central role of Maruf Zaman. The cast also includes Shatabdi Wadud, Nader Chowdhury, Ashish Khandakar, Mohana Meem, Golam Farida Chhanda, Milon Bhattacharya, and Sharif Siraj, among others.
Director Laskar Niaz Mahmud shared that "Girgiti" was crafted with a focus on realism and emotional authenticity. "Murder mysteries often follow a familiar structure — there's a murder, an investigation, and a detective. From Sherlock Holmes to Feluda, it's a classic formula. But our goal was to bring freshness through storytelling and visual treatment," he said. "We wanted to tell a gripping story with honesty and care. The post-production was done at SK Studio in India, and the editing was handled by Subhajit Singha."
He added, "We presented the characters not as superhuman detectives or villains, but as people grounded in reality. Alongside experienced actors, we've introduced several new faces — at least a dozen of them facing the camera for the first time — and their performances will surprise audiences."
Lead actor Irfan Sajjad described the series as a psychological and suspenseful journey. "In nature, a chameleon changes its colours — mysterious and unpredictable. Our 'Girgiti' embodies that same sense of transformation and enigma," he said. "It's a crime-thriller layered with emotion, intrigue, and the dark corners of human nature."
