‘Freakier Friday’ trailer revives Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan’s classic roles

Over two decades after their iconic roles in "Freaky Friday", Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reunite in the trailer for the highly anticipated sequel, "Freakier Friday".
Inspired by Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel, the 2003 film followed Lohan as Anna Coleman, a teenager who unexpectedly switched bodies with her mother, Tess Coleman, played by Curtis.
In this fresh take, the duo encounters a mystic, portrayed by "Saturday Night Live" alum Vanessa Bayer, who cryptically mentions that their "lifelines" have crossed before—a revelation that leaves them feigning ignorance.
However, the supernatural twist takes an unexpected turn when they don't just swap bodies again, but this time, Anna's biological daughter and stepdaughter become part of the mix.
While the new instalment introduces a unique storyline, it still weaves in familiar elements that pay homage to the beloved original.
In 2023, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reflected on the 20th anniversary of their beloved family comedy in an interview with The New York Times, revealing their enthusiasm for Disney's follow-up film.
"While traveling the globe for Halloween Ends, fans kept asking if another "Freaky Friday" was in the works," Curtis shared with the outlet.
"It struck a deep chord with people. When I returned, I reached out to my contacts at Disney and said, 'There's definitely a story waiting to be told.'"
Lohan shared a similar sentiment, stating, "Both Jamie and I are open to the idea, but we want it to be something audiences will truly love. It's in the hands of the right people now."
Joining the cast for the upcoming sequel are Mark Harmon, Rosalind Chao, Chad Michael Murray, Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, among others.
The film is slated for a theatrical release on August 8.
