"840," a political satire inspired by tales of Bangladeshi politicians, is set to hit theatres this Friday (December 13). 

Directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the film has already created a buzz with its recently released trailer, captivating audiences with sharp dialogues and witty one-liners.

The trailer, which debuted last Friday, showcases scenes that have resonated strongly with viewers. One standout moment features Nasir Uddin Khan's character lamenting, "I'm doing so much for development. Why doesn't anyone love me?" 

Many fans have linked this line to the actions of the recently ousted government, sparking further interest in the film's political undertones.  

In an interview with Daily Prothom Alo, Farooki shared the challenges of creating "840". He revealed that he began working on the film in November 2023, during the tenure of the former Awami League-les government, a time he described as stressful due to concerns that his work might face censorship.  

Speaking about the film's themes, Farooki commented, "It's true that the audience, after watching the trailer, can understand what Bangladesh was like during the previous government's tenure. We've portrayed it through the lens of a district town—an X-ray report of the Awami government's misrule. I believe there will be more such reports in the future."  

"840" follows the story of a small-town mayor, shedding light on his political career, including election campaigns, public displays of development projects, staged mourning, and dramatised events to gain sympathy. 

The film explores the leader's hypocrisy, offering a satirical look at the dynamics of power and manipulation.  

The star-studded cast includes Nasir Uddin Khan, Marzuk Russell, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Bijori Barkatullah, and Zakia Bari Mamo, alongside local actors from Rajshahi and Naogaon. Farooki praised the cast for understanding the film's critical themes, noting that their dedication to the project was unwavering.
