Ekushey Padak has surpassed all my other awards: Babita
Babita is an internationally acclaimed film actress. After acting in Satyajit Ray’s “Ashani Sanket”, she was honoured in many places around the world. In her own country, she has received the National Film Award many times. She has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Film Awards. The Mayor of Dallas gave her a lifetime honour. She has received many other awards and honours as well.
This time, Babita is going to receive the Ekushey Padak. She shared this feeling of joy with The Daily Star.
When asked about her personal feelings on receiving the Ekushey Padak, the “Ashani Sanket”-famed actress Babita said, “I am very happy, very delighted. I am extremely happy. Because I am receiving the Ekushey Padak in the Language Month. Receiving the Ekushey Padak in the Language Month is the greatest achievement of my life. I feel a great sense of happiness.”
Babita also said, “I thank and express my gratitude to the government. I express my gratitude to all my co-artistes and everyone related to the film industry. Throughout my long career, journalists have also played an important role, and I express my love and gratitude to them. I also express my love to my parents, brothers, and sisters. I express deep love to all my directors.”

When asked whose thought came to her mind first after hearing the news of receiving the Ekushey Padak, Babita said, “To tell the truth, when I learned that I am going to receive the Ekushey Padak this time, I thought first of my only son, Anik. I stayed in Canada for a long time. Now I am in the country. I always miss my son. But after hearing about such a big honour, Anik came to my mind first.”
She said, “I could not reach my son by phone. He was probably sleeping. I left an SMS. Surely he will call after waking up. I know Anik will be very happy.”
Speaking about her sister Champa and elder sister Suchanda, Babita said, “They are very happy. Everyone from home and abroad is calling to congratulate me. My brother and his family members from outside the country called after hearing the news. Champa and Suchanda apa are happy. Everyone is telling me on the phone that I must treat them to sweets. I am very happy with everyone's happiness.”
While talking, Babita said, “Look, I have received many awards in life. I have received the National Film Award many times in Bangladesh. Once I received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Film Awards. I have received awards from Kolkata and many other countries. The Mayor of Dallas gave me a lifetime honour. Also, the Mayor of Dallas declared a day as ‘Babita Day’. But the Ekushey Padak has surpassed all my other awards.”
Babita said, “I have spent a whole life acting. I have received people’s love. Now I am going to receive the Ekushey Padak. I have become very emotional. It feels very good. My love to all the people of the country. Because of their love, I have come this far.”
