‘Daagi’ receives censor certificate

Afran Nisho's much anticipated return to the silver screen with Shihab Shaheen's "Daagi" is all set to hit theatres this Eid. The film received its censor certificate today. This marks the second film featuring Nisho, produced by SVF Alpha-i Entertainment Ltd and in association with the OTT platform Chorki.
The film received a 'U' (Universal) grade censor certificate, meaning it is suitable for viewers of all ages, as informed through a press note from Chorki. Expressing his excitement, Shahriar Shakil, Managing Director (MD) of SVF Alpha-i Entertainment Ltd, said, "We wanted to create a film that families could enjoy together during Eid, and we believe we have achieved that. The censor certification board has granted Dagi a 'U' grade, which confirms it."
Shahriar Shakil further added, "The success of any film depends on whether it reaches the audience. A film's impact largely depends on family audiences. I believe 'Daagi' is an incredible story-driven film—perfect for families to watch together during Eid. The way we have tried to tell this story, I am confident that audiences in our country will appreciate it."
Director Shihab Shaheen described the film as a story of release and redemption. Naturally, he is thrilled about receiving the censor certificate. He shared that "Daagi" is a character-driven film with powerful performances, something not commonly seen in Bangladesh.
Providing an insight into the film, he shared, "'Daagi' is the story of Nishan and Jarin's love and separation. At the same time, it is also a tale of regret and repentance for these two characters. From the teaser and romantic songs that have been released, I believe the audience has already sensed this."
The director continued, "The film also involves a setup in the prison. Once someone is marked as a convict, that stigma follows them for life. This is where the theme of forgiveness becomes crucial, which is not only significant in our lives but also a fundamental aspect of religion and humanity. That is why we say, 'Daagi' is a story of release and redemption."
The shooting of "Daagi" took place in Syedpur, Rajshahi, and Dhaka. The film features performances by Tama Mirza, Sunerah Binte Kamal, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Gazi Rakayet, Mili Basher, Rashed Mamun Apu, and others. The story, screenplay, and dialogues of "Daagi" have been written by director Shihab Shaheen.
