Chorki represents Bangladesh at Asian Academy Creative Awards

The Asian Academy Creative Awards is one of the most prestigious award shows in the world of cinema, particularly in Asia. On Thursday, December 8, early in the morning, a panel discussion took place with the national winners from different Asian countries.

Representing Bangladesh in that panel, was Redoan Rony, popular director and Chief Operating Officer of Chorki. Rony was a part of the Drama Panel, where he discussed new content, including series and web-series. Additionally, he spoke about the current state of OTT platforms and where he expects it to go in the future, as well as what kind of content he believes will be high in demand in the future.

Also part of the drama panel were producer Daisuke Kusgay from Japan; associate director of production, Imillya Roslan from Malaysia; executive producer Dondon from the Philippines; and Singaporean director, Lee Thean-Jeen. The panel was moderated by Mansha Daswani.

On the other hand, another popular Bangladeshi director, Mohammad Touqir Islam, was a panellist on the Direction-Fiction Panel.  The director of "Shaaticup" fame discussed the state of fiction and the future of OTT, along with what filmmaking philosophies are more in demand at present.

Alongside Touqir, the panel also included India director Basil Joseph; Japan's Gekidan Hitori; Malaysia's Yusry Abdul Halim; New Zealand's Aidee Walker and Singapore's Lee Thean-Jeen. Marcus Lim, of Variety Asia, was the moderator of this panel.

‘Rickshaw Girl’ finally gets theatrical release

This will mark the first time Bangladesh has participated in the Asian Academy Creative Awards. On September 30, the Asian Academy announced this year's National Winners in various categories, through their official Facebook page. Chorki Bangladesh won in three categories in total:

1. Best Feature Film: "Khachar Bhitor Ochin Pakhi"

2. Best Drama Series: "Jaago Bahey"

3. Best Director (Fiction): Mohammad Touqir Islam, "Shaaticup"

Now, everyone is waiting for the main event of the award programme, which will take place later in the evening. The question on everyone's mind is whether Bangladesh will receive any of the awards they are nominated for.

The Asian Academy Creative Awards take place in Singapore, around December of every year. The award programme honours the film and television industry's best works, from across 16 countries in the Asia Pacific region. This international recognition at the Asian Academy Creative Awards will undoubtedly be a massive achievement for Bangladesh.
