‘Sharadiya Cultural Festival’ kicks off today

For the first time, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is hosting the two-day "Sharadiya Cultural Festival 2025," which begins today (September 30) and will continue through Wednesday (October 1).

Organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and managed by Shilpakala Academy, the event will be attended by Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and other advisers. Cultural Secretary Md Mofidur Rahman, Director General of Shilpakala Academy Rezauddin Ahmed Stalin, and senior officials from various ministries, departments, and organisations are also expected to be present.

According to a press release, ambassadors from several countries have been invited as special guests.

The festival will open at 6:30 pm at Suhrawardy Udyan open stage with a jatra (folk theatre) performance of "Mahishasura Mardini, Devi Durga", presented by Palakar Ujjal Kumar Byapari and the Mata Majjulika religious theatre troupe.

The closing day's programme will be held on October 1 at Shilpakala Academy's Nandan Mancha, beginning with a ritualistic Manglik Nritya accompanied by traditional drum and dhol.

Welcome speeches will be delivered by Tapan Chandra Majumdar, Bijon Kanti Sarkar, Ramesh Dutta, and Tarun Dey. Group performances will include Shyama Sangeet, devotional, patriotic, and contemporary songs.

Renowned artistes Anima Roy, Debolina Sur Dola, Ritu Raj, and Shithi Saha will also present solo performances. The event will remain open to all.
