Ethik to honour 17 young theatre artistes with Youth Award 2026

Theatre organisation Ethik has announced that it will confer the Ethik Youth Award 2026 on 17 emerging theatre practitioners from 17 theatre groups across Bangladesh, recognising their contributions to contemporary stage practice.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony on January 9 at the Mohila Samity Auditorium on Bailey Road in Dhaka. Each recipient will receive a commemorative medal in recognition of their work and commitment to theatre.

This year's awardees are Rashedur Rahman (Theatre), Mahfuz Ahammad (Prachyanat), Ifti Ahmed (Tarua), Sanjoy Haldar (Batighar Theatre), Naim Hasan Nishad (Desh Natok), Rana Sikder (Theatre Art Unit), Badhan Sarkar (Prangane Mor), Sazzad Hossain Nishad (Palakar), Nafiza Tasnim Khanam Tisha (BotTola), Abir Sayem (Anuswar), Asha Akter (Theatre Factory), Tanushree Karkun (Tirandaj Repertory), Rajib Deb (Vivekananda Theatre), Afroza Bithi (Drishyakabya), Sumaiya Shishir (Swapnadal), Saikat Sharif (Bangladesh Theatre) and Tanzid Islam Shubho (Padatik Natya Sangsad).

The programme will be attended by several prominent cultural figures, including Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General and poet Rezauddin Stalin, Directors' Guild President and theatre personality Shahiduzzaman Selim, noted playwright Masum Reza, and actress and cultural organiser Tropa Majumdar.

The event will be presided over by Ethik President, playwright and filmmaker Rezanur Rahman. Speaking about the initiative, Rahman said young practitioners play a vital role in sustaining and advancing stage theatre. "Through the Ethik Youth Award, we aim to encourage those promising theatre workers who are enriching theatre practice with their dedication and creativity. Ethik will continue to support young artistes and carry this initiative forward," he said.

This year marks the fifth edition of the Ethik Youth Award, underscoring the organisation's long-term commitment to nurturing the next generation of theatre-makers in Bangladesh.
