Acclaimed actress Aupee Karim has praised Raihan Rafi’s “Pressure Cooker”, highlighting its strong storytelling, performances and technical finesse in a recent Facebook post.

Despite a busy Eid schedule, Karim said she managed to watch only one film. “I had the chance to watch just one film during Eid, and that was ‘Pressure Cooker’,” she wrote.

She emphasised that the film stands out for relying on narrative strength rather than commercial tropes. “It clearly attempts to hold the audience’s attention through a strong story and construction, without unnecessary song-and-dance or action,” she noted, adding that the film feels “completely different” from Rafi’s earlier works—“almost like a different Rafi.”

Karim was particularly impressed by Nazifa Tushi’s performance. “What can I say about Nazifa Tushi! Her effort continues to impress me. There is a distinct intensity in her performance that makes the atmosphere of the story even more powerful,” she wrote.

She also praised the performances of Rizvi Rizu and Fazlur Rahman Babu, stating that their work “left a mark.”

Commenting on the overall production, Karim said, “The acting, cinematography, editing, sound, set, costume, make-up and location selection—there is clear evidence of complete care in every aspect.”

However, she pointed out a few limitations. “Personally, I felt that if certain parts were shortened or a few characters removed, it might have felt more cohesive,” she added.

Still, Karim commended the filmmaker for stepping outside his comfort zone. “It takes courage to make this kind of story-driven film. Raihan Rafi, a popular director, has stepped out of his comfort zone and ventured into a challenging and risky space. This initiative certainly deserves appreciation,” she wrote, adding that she looks forward to his future projects.

She also offered a note of advice to audiences: “Before going to watch a film, do a bit of research. Watch the teaser or trailer, understand the content, and decide whether it is suitable to watch with children before purchasing tickets.”
