Bangladeshi rock icon Mahfuz Anam James cast his vote in the 13th national parliamentary election on Thursday at Baridhara Scholar School and College in the capital’s Baridhara DOHS area. The polling centre falls under the Dhaka-17 constituency.

James arrived at the centre around 3:30pm. As he entered, fans gathered around him and requested selfies. He briefly interacted with voters as well as members of law enforcement and election officials on duty.

Speaking to Prothom Alo after casting his vote, James said, “A beautiful democratic process defines a country. Whoever comes next, this continuity should be maintained. May peace prevail in the country, and may the people of the country live well.”

Commenting on the voting environment, he added, “Everything was very smooth. I came, collected the slip, cast my vote, and it was all well organised. There was no trouble.”

After voting, James also encouraged fellow band members to exercise their right to vote and contacted several of them to check whether they had done so.
