The American Music Awards (AMAs) unveiled the list of nominees for this year's edition earlier today. As expected, the lineup features a star-studded mix of artistes, including Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, Sabrina Carpenter, SZA, and Taylor Swift — a recurring blend of powerhouse names in the music scene.

However, stealing the spotlight this time is Rosé from the globally celebrated Korean girl group Blackpink. The K-pop star has etched her name into history by becoming the first and only K-pop artiste to earn a nomination outside of the genre's designated category.

She's also the lone female nominee in the Favourite K-pop Artist category. Rosé secured a spot in the prestigious Collaboration of the Year category for her chart-dominating hit "APT", a standout track produced in collaboration with the masterful Bruno Mars.

In this highly competitive category, Rosé is up against heavyweights like Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "Luther", Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga's "Die with a Smile", Marshmello and Kane Brown's "Miles on It", Post Malone and Morgan Wallen's "I Had Some Help", and Taylor Swift's "Fortnight", which also features Post Malone.

In the K-pop segment, Rosé stands as the only woman amid an all-male group of contenders, including Stray Kids, Ateez, and solo entries from BTS members Jimin and RM.

"APT" — 2024's undeniable smash hit. Inspired by Rosé's favourite Korean drinking game — which she has enthusiastically introduced to global audiences, the track was released last December and quickly soared to success.

The song has now remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive 26 straight weeks, setting a new benchmark for the longest-running entry by a female K-pop artiste on the US chart. This milestone surpasses the previous record held by girl group Fifty Fifty, whose 2023 single "Cupid" stayed on the chart for 25 weeks.

This year's American Music Awards, hosted by Jennifer Lopez, will reveal the winners live from Las Vegas on May 26.
