DSCC Mayor Taposh kicks off year-long mosquito curbing programme
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has inaugurated a year-long programme on eradicating the mosquito menace in the city.
"I give utmost importance on mosquito eradication activities so that the city dwellers don't have to suffer from mosquitoes like previous years," Taposh said while inaugurating the programme at a park in Nababganj under the DSCC today.
He said that the usual activities in a bid to eradicate mosquito from the city area has been reorganised from top to bottom, and the newly adapted action plan will begin from today.
The new action plan will be implemented at all the 75 wards under the DSCC to make the efforts successful, the mayor said.
A team consisting eight members of mosquito control personnel will work at each ward from 9:00am to 1:00pm. while another team of 10 members will remain engaged in running fogging activities from 2:30pm to 6:30pm, he said.
All ward councillors will engage in operating the mosquito eradication activities and the efforts will continue for 24 hours, the DSCC mayor said.
Taposh said he does not want city dwellers to be infected with dengue or chikungunya amid the outbreak of coronavirus.
"I hope that mosquito breeding will reduce significantly from next year if the action plan is appropriately implemented," Taposh said.
He said the work of cleaning the water bodies and reservoirs will start from June 14, and farming of tilapia fish and duck will begin in the water bodies immediately so that the fish and ducks eat up the mosquito larvae.
