Two new local films hit theatres after Eid rush
Two new Bangladeshi films, “Atarbibilen” and “Manushtike Dekho”, are releasing in cinemas today, even as several Eid-ul-Fitr releases continue their theatrical run after more than a month.
Directed by Mejanur Rahman Labu, “Atarbibilen” follows the struggles of Atarbibi, a marginalised woman who dreams of a normal life but repeatedly faces betrayal and hardship. The film highlights the realities of women living on society’s margins. Farzana Sumi plays the lead role and also serves as producer. The cast also includes Mostafa Prokash, Rashed Mamun Apu, Ashish Khandaker, Elina Shammi and Sanzida Mila.
Meanwhile, “Manushtike Dekho” (See the Person) has been directed by Gazi Rakayet. The film aims to challenge stigma and misconceptions around cerebral palsy while encouraging sensitivity towards people with disabilities.
The story centres on Farida, a young woman with cerebral palsy who uses a wheelchair but refuses to be defeated by social neglect. Her fight for disability rights is joined by Firoz, a young man working with street children.
Funded by the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed, the film stars Rashna Sharmin Camey, Tahmid Arefin Haque, Tariq Anam Khan, Mili Basher, Mamunur Rashid, Gazi Rakayet, Shatabdi Wadud, Lara Lotus, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed and others. CRP founder Valerie Ann Taylor appears as a guest artist.
Alongside the local releases, Hollywood sequel “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is also opening in the country’s cineplexes today. Directed by David Frankel, the film reunites Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, with Stanley Tucci, Justin Theroux and Kenneth Branagh also in the cast.
