Dhaka gears up for a musical Pahela Baishakh with concerts
Dhaka is set to come alive with music and celebration this Pahela Baishakh, as multiple concerts across the capital prepare to welcome the Bengali New Year with a festive mix of pop, band music and youth-centred performances.
One of the major attractions will be the two-day concert “Carpe Diem – Lal Boishakhi 1433”, organised by Assen and Rishka Connects at Kamal Ataturk Park in Banani on April 13 and 14. Organisers said popular singers Habib Wahid and Pritom Hasan will headline the event, alongside performances by several bands.
Another major draw this Boishakh will be a concert by Coke Studio Bangla, set to take place on April 14 from 3:00pm at Courtside on 100 Feet Madani Avenue. According to the platform’s official announcement, the event will feature some of its popular artistes and musicians in what it described as a specially curated festive gathering.
Entry to the Coke Studio Bangla concert will be ticketed. Venue authorities said tickets are being sold in three categories, priced between Tk 200 and Tk 850. However, attendees will need tickets from two specific categories to enter the concert zone, priced at Tk 800 and Tk 850.
Fusion band Chirkutt will also be among the busiest acts of the day, performing at multiple university events in the capital. The band is scheduled to perform at East West University at 11:00am on April 14, followed by a show at North South University at 3:00pm the same day. They are also set to perform at United International University on April 15.
Their setlist is expected to include popular original tracks such as “Jadur Shohor”, “Ahare Jibon”, “Duniya” and “Kanamachhi”.
Chirkutt vocalist Sharmin Sultana Sumi said the band always returns to the stage with the love of young audiences and that they were delighted to receive invitations from several universities this Boishakh.
With large-scale concerts, campus performances and festive crowds expected across the city, the capital is preparing for a vibrant start to the new year.
