The South Korean city of Busan was transformed into a BTS-themed festival over the weekend as fans from around the world gathered to celebrate the group’s return to the city, their ongoing “Arirang” world tour, and the 13th anniversary of their debut.

Held under the banner “BTS The City Arirang – Busan”, the celebrations saw major landmarks across the country’s second-largest city illuminated in red, the signature colour of BTS’ latest album, “Arirang”. Gwangan Bridge, Busan Harbor Bridge, and Suyeonggang Human Bridge were among the locations lit up for the occasion, while large digital displays across the city screened BTS music videos and themed visuals.

Popular tourist destinations also joined the festivities. At Haeundae Beach, a giant sand sculpture bearing the slogan “Keep Swimming” became a popular attraction for visitors. Gwangalli Beach hosted drone shows on Friday and Saturday nights, with 1,000 drones creating images inspired by songs from “Arirang” as well as fan favourites including “Magic Shop” and “Mikrokosmos”.

The highlight of the display came when portraits of all seven BTS members appeared in the night sky, drawing cheers from thousands of fans gathered along the beach.

The celebrations also served as a countdown to BTS’ first concert in Busan since “Yet To Come in Busan” in 2022, which marked the group’s final concert before the members began their mandatory military service.

Fans travelled from around the world to take part in the festivities, many describing the reunion as a significant moment in the group’s history as it coincides with BTS’ 13th debut anniversary.

Throughout the city, BTS-themed installations welcomed visitors arriving at Busan Station, where organisers set up a visitor centre offering tourism information, photo zones, and luggage services for concertgoers.

Haeundae Beach also featured interactive exhibits where fans could leave messages for the group and commemorate the anniversary, while a beachside lounge offered visitors a space to relax and listen to BTS’ music.

Local businesses joined the celebrations as well, with restaurants, cafés, retailers, and accommodation providers launching BTS-themed promotions and special offers.

Blending music, tourism, and commerce, the large-scale initiative turned Busan into a vibrant cultural hub and underscored BTS’ global influence as the group reunited with fans following military service.
