Bangladesh national football team captain Jamal Bhuyan is stepping in front of the camera for the first time as an actor. The football star is playing the central character in “Brazentina”, an eight-episode series directed by Tarique Muhammad Hasan, inspired by the passion surrounding the FIFA World Cup.

According to a report by Prothom Alo, filming of the project began on Monday at a football ground in Kalabagan, Dhaka—a venue that holds special significance for Jamal. “I started my career on this ground, and now I’m shooting here,” he said.

Jamal revealed that he initially turned down the offer, but the director remained persistent. “He had wanted to work with me four years ago, but I didn’t have the time. This time he convinced me and gave me the confidence to try,” he said, adding that conversations with former cricketer Mohammad Ashraful, who had previously worked with the director, helped reassure him.

Although he has appeared in advertisements before, Jamal admitted that acting has been a completely new challenge. “The whole process feels magical. Acting is very different and certainly not easy, especially when you’re working alongside professional performers. But I’m enjoying the experience,” he said.

Director Tarique Muhammad Hasan praised the footballer’s commitment on set. “His sincerity and willingness to learn stood out from day one. He has adapted remarkably well to the language of acting in a short time,” he said.
