The High Court (HC) today rejected a petition filed by Ayesha Siddika Minni seeking cancellation of the trial proceedings in a case filed against her over the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif.

The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the rejection order as her petition was not moved properly.

The trial proceedings of the murder case will now go on as usual, Advocate Jamiul Ahsan Foisal, a lawyer for Minni, told The Daily Star.

Minni recently filed the petition with the HC seeking cancellation of the trial proceedings of the case against her saying that the lower court could not frame charges against her properly under due process of law.

Advocate ZI Khan Panna appeared for Minni while Deputy Attorney General FR Khan represented the state.

On January 1 this year, Barguna District and Sessions Judges Court framed charges against the accused including Minni.

HOW WAS RIFAT MURDERED?

Rifat Sharif, 25, an internet service provider, was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of his wife’s college in Barguna town on June 26.

In the CCTV footage of the incident, Minni was seen screaming and trying to save her husband from the attackers.

Police arrested Minni after a daylong interrogation on July 16. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day. Three days later, a Barguna court recorded her statement.

On August 29, the High Court granted bail to Minni on condition that she cannot talk to the media and she will remain in her father’s custody.

On September 1, police pressed charges against her and 23 others for their alleged involvement in the murder of Rifat Sharif.

Meanwhile the name of the prime accused Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond has been excluded from the charges as he was killed in a “gunfight” on July 2, six days after the murder.
