Tangail protest ‘instigated’, acting IGP says
-- Acting IGP says allegations of negligence against policemen will be investigated
-- 3 shot dead, 32 hurt in the clash between locals and cops
-- 7 policemen closed in this connection
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mokhlesur Rahman today claimed that Friday's protest against the torture of a mother and her son in Tangail was "instigated" by certain quarters.
"The incident on that day was regrettable and unexpected and we don't want any person to die while law and order is being maintained," the acting IGP said at a press conference at police headquarters in Dhaka this afternoon.

The protesters tried to launch an attack on the police station, which is also not acceptable, the police official said.
During this, policemen acted according to the law, he added.
But allegations of negligence against policemen will be investigated, the IGP said.
At least three people were shot to death in Kalihati upazila of Tangail on September 18 afternoon as police opened fire during a clash with locals protesting the brutal assault of a woman and her son.
The incident left at least 32 others injured and they include three cops and three bullet-hit locals.
