Thousands of tea garden workers in Sylhet division observed a four-hour work abstention today, demanding a hike on their daily payment.

Over 1.50 lakh workers of 158 tea gardens in the division started the strike around 8:00am, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

Bangladesh Cha Sromik Union declared the strike yesterday to press home their demand.

The workers get Tk 69 as daily payment. They are now demanding a hike of the payment to Tk 200 daily, Raju Goala, president of Sylhet unit of the Sromik union told our local correspondent.
