Sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique was freed this afternoon days after he had obtained bail in cases filed against him on charges of hurting religious sentiment of the Muslims.

Abdu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, told The Daily Star that he walked out of the prison cell at BSMMU hospital around 4:45pm after his bail order reached the law enforcers from the Dhaka Central Jail.

He left the hospital in a private car, the officer added.

The former minister secured bail in 17 cases in two phases – in 10 cases on June 23 and in seven cases on May 26 – from the High Court.

Among the 28 cases Latif was implicated in, now, the former minister has bail pending in 11.

A defence lawyer requesting anonymity told The Daily Star on June 23 that his client might be released from jail since there was no arrest warrant against Latif in the remaining cases.
