Ruling party men assault Kushtia headmaster
A group of activists of Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League, youth bodies of ruling Awami League, today beat up headmaster of a high school in Kushtia for submitting names of the school's managing committee members without consulting with them.
The victim, Shamsul Alam, headmaster of Hasanbag High School in Lakshmipur village of Sadar Upazila in Kushtia, told The Daily Star that he submitted the names of few local people to Kushtia Sadar Upazila education office to form a managing committee for the school on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.
Following this, a group of local JL and BCL activists led by Saddam Hossain, Zillur Rahman, and Anis of the area stormed into his office today for submitting the names without consulting with them, he also said.
Other teachers and local people rescued the headmaster, after which the ruling party men confined him to his office and pressurised him to sign on a paper with the names of a new committee members, reports our Kushtia correspondent.
On information, a team of law enforcers from Lakshmipur police camp rushed to the spot, rescued the headmaster and brought the situation under control, said Atiqur Rahman, a sub-inspector of the camp.
Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge of Islamic University Police Station confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kushtia Sadar Upazila Khodeza Khatun said that her administration is taking necessary steps in this regard.
