Robber gang leader killed in Dinajpur ‘gunfight’: Police
The head of a robber gang was killed in a gunfight with police in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur early today, police said.
The deceased was identified as Kohidul Islam, 44, son of late Salamat Pradhan of Dhawa-Nashipur village in the upazila, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.
Abdur Razzak Akanda, officer-in-charge of Hakimpur Police Station, said a police team launched a drive at Kashiadanga village around 2:00am after receiving information that a robber gang was active in the area.
Sensing the presence of the police team, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate.
Kohidul died on the spot from bullet wounds while the others managed to flee, the police official said.
Two policemen -- sub-inspector Mahe Alam and constable Fazlul Haque – were injured in the gunfight, the OC claimed.
Police recovered a pipe gun, bullets and shells from the spot, the OC added.
