Remuneration of president, PM, MPs to double

The cabinet today endorsed amendment to a law, which will almost double the renumeration of president, prime minister, speaker, lawmakers and judges of the Supreme Court.

The approval for draft of Remuneration and Privilege Amendment Act 2015 came in today's regular meeting of the cabinet, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

The proposed amendment hikes the president's salary from Tk 61,200 to Tk 1.20 lakh and that of the prime minister from Tk 58,600 to Tk 1.15 lakh.

It also proposes salary of the Speaker to be raised to Tk 1.12 lakh from Tk 57,200 and of the Chief Justice's from Tk 56,000 to Tk 1.10 lakh, the report added.

The move came weeks after the incumbent government almost doubled the pay for around 14 lakh civil servants working in the country with retrospective effect from July last.
