Apprehending that a vested quarter is behind the recent planned killing of two foreign nationals, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today affirmed that no one will be able to destabilise the country by carrying out such acts.

"Bangladesh has consolidated its position on the international stage in such a way that no one will be able to destabilise the country with such incidents," she said.

The prime minister was addressing a function after inaugurating the newly-built academic building (Sheikh Hasina Complex) of Defence Services Command and Staff College at Mirpur Cantonment.

Seeking cooperation, Sheikh Hasina urged all, including the members of the Armed Forces, to remain alert so that no one could deter the country's pace of development.

Referring to the recent killings of two foreign nationals, one Italian national in Dhaka and another Japanese citizen in Rangpur, Hasina said the Japanese national had converted to Islam, but he was killed. "We've already condemned the killing and taken steps for hunting down those involved in the incidents and then ensuring their punishment."

She also said, "In the wake of such incidents it appears to us these are not mere accidents, but a vested quarter is carrying out such incidents in a planned way."

The prime minister said whenever Bangladesh achieves something and is internationally acclaimed, then such incident is unleashed to tarnish the image of the country.
