Nisha Biswal meets foreign minister
US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal today had a lengthy and extensive discussion with top officials of the Foreign Ministry on US-Bangladesh partnership and combating terrorism and extremism.
Biswal arrived in Dhaka early this morning for a two-day visit to hold meeting with top government officials following the brutal murder of a local staff of USAID and LGBT activist Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Tonoy.
The US diplomat had a three-hour meeting from 9:45am with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque at state guesthouse Padma when they discussed entire range of bilateral issues and current security situation in Bangladesh.
After the meeting, Biswal tweeted: "Important talks with FM Ali, State Minister Alam, & FS Haque on the US-#Bangladesh partnership and combating terrorism & extremism."

Biswal was assisted by US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat, Deputy Chief of Mission David Meal, Political and Economic Counselor Andrea Brouillette-Rodriguez and other senior officials.
High officials from the Foreign Ministry also attended the meeting.
