Industrialist Tajul killed in road crash

Industrialist Kazi Tajul Islam Farooq, 60, was killed when a truck hit him on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Habiganj Sadar upazila today.

Hailing from Habiganj's Nurpur village, Tajul was an ex-chairman of Westmont Power (Bangladesh) Limited company.

Tajul was standing in front of his private car beside the highway when a truck carrying vegetables hit him, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting Yasinul Huq, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shayestaganj Police Station of Habiganj.

He was rushed to Habiganj Upazila Health Complex where doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Tajul succumbed to his injuries on his way to Dhaka, the OC confirmed.

Tajrul came to light after filing an extortion case against the present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the caretaker government regime in 2007. However, a High Court bench on May 30, 2010 scrapped the case.
