Govt moves to reduce 5-6 lakh cases in 2020: Law minister
Law Minister Anisul Huq today said that the government will take some initiatives so that five to six lakh cases are reduced from the existing backlog of the cases within this year.
"It is not possible to dispose of all the 31 lakh pending cases within a year but it is not unreal to reduce five to six lakh cases in the same time."
The government will take the necessary programmes and increase manpower to fill up the target.
"I have already talked to the chief justice about this issue," he said.
The law minister said this while talking to reporters after attending as chief guest to the inauguration of a training course for the assistant judges at Judicial Administration Training Institute in Dhaka.
Replying to a question, the law minister said that the government will take initiatives so that more cases are disposed of outside the court through compromise under the alternative dispute regulation system.
Necessary training will be provided to the lower court judges so that they can encourage the citizens to settle their cases through the alternative dispute regulation (ADR).
Replying to another question he said that the people's fate on the judiciary has increased in the last ten years during the regime of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led government.
