Fire at Dhaka-Kolkata Maitree Express
A fire broke out in Maitree Express on its way to Sealdah railway station in Kolkata from Dhaka this afternoon.
The fire originated in the pantry car of the Bangladesh-India train shortly after it left Naihati station around 5:00pm, panicking the passengers, reports a correspondent from Kolkata.
The entire compartment was filled with smoke soon after the fire ensued, forcing the officials to shift the passengers to another compartment.
No one was injured in the incident.
The train slowed down and stopped at Kankinara Station where firefighters doused the fire by spraying fire extinguishing powder. The train then left Kankinara for Sealdah after the fire officials inspected the interior of the train.
"Fire officials reached the spot after being informed about the fire in the pantry car and doused the fire in a 25-minute effort. Maitree Express then left for the destination," CP Mahapatra, chief public relations officer of railway, told the correspondent.
