Cops fire as car violates signal in Uttara

Law enforcers opened fire at a private car as it sped away defying a signal to stop at a checkpost in Uttara of Dhaka this noon.

After a two-kilometre chase, the four youths who were in the white car abandoned the vehicle in Uttara Sector-5, Ali Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station, told The Daily Star.

Policemen at the checkpost -- on the east side of Jashimuddin Road -- signalled the vehicle to stop around 12noon but it ignored the signal, said Abu Bakar Miah, OC of Uttara East Police Station, said.
