Clash over land dispute kills college student in Dhaka

A college student was killed and at least five people were injured today in a clash between two groups of locals over a land dispute at Uttar Kalshi of Pallabi in Dhaka.

The deceased, Abdur Rahman Chanchal, 23, was a first year student of Bangabandhu College at Pallabi, his mother Salma Begum told The Daily Star.

Chanchal went to his computer compose shop located near Mirpur Ceramics around 9:30am and came under the attack mistakenly when the two groups were clashing.

Chanchal was taken to the local Islamic Bank Hospital first and died on his way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Locals said there had been a long standing dispute between Momin Box and Shaheen Uddin over the ownership of a piece of land in the area.

Kamal Hossain, assistant commissioner (Pallabi zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said the incident took place over a land related dispute and that has been continuing since long.
