BSF kills Bangladeshi on Lalmonirhat border
A Bangladeshi cattle trader was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Sree Rampur border in Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat early today.
The deceased was identified as Ershadul Haque, 35, son of Ehasanul Haque from Burimari Islampur village in the upazila, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent.
Police recovered the body in the wee hours of today and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Mansur Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station.
Ershadul and some other people went to India for bringing Indian cattle but when they were entering Bangladesh, BSF troops opened fire targeting the cattle traders, the OC said quoting the victim’s family members.
Ershadul came in the line of fire and was hit by a bullet, he said.
He succumbed after entering Bangladesh territory. Police recovered the body with the help of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), he added.
Confirming the incident, Commander of Burimari BGB camp Subedar Nayek Mizanur Rahman said BGB sent a letter to BSF protesting the killing.
